At Basin Orthopedic, our commitment extends beyond the walls of our practice and into the heart of our community. We believe in building a healthier, more connected world, one interaction at a time. Our dedicated team, with its professional expertise and genuine compassion, actively participates in local events and supports initiatives designed to nurture inclusivity and well-being.
Shoes That Fit Initiative
The staff at Basin Orthopedic is proud to be the local chapter of the Shoes That Fit organization. At Shoes That Fit, we work tirelessly to offset one of the most prominent signs of poverty in America: lack of suitable footwear for children in need.
The gift of shoes is much more than just footwear. It instills confidence in children and encourages them to step forward into a brighter future. Our vision at Shoes That Fit aligns closely with this belief. We aim to ensure that all children in our community that need new shoes get new shoes, enabling them the opportunity to reach their highest potential.
Each school year, Basin Orthopedic hosts one large fundraiser throughout a semester, delivering one pair of shoes and five pairs of socks to over 150 kids across two local elementary schools.
Shoes That Fit Values
At Shoes That Fit, we believe in:
We pledge to recognize, honor, and welcome the variety of backgrounds, life challenges, and experiences that our staff, volunteers, and the youth we serve bring to the table. We firmly believe that our strength lies in our diversity, and we are dedicated to creating and adapting our work environments, procedures, and programs to reflect this commitment.
Our commitment extends to our collaborative partners - the donors, schools, and agencies with whom we work very closely. We value their contribution greatly and treat them with due appreciation, understanding the value of their unique expertise. Our resolve goes above and beyond, ensuring we work in sync with our partners to uphold the highest standards of privacy and maintain the dignity of the children we serve.
We pledge to work hand in hand with schools, donors, and nonprofits, recognizing that they have the deepest knowledge about their communities. We make a promise to not just hear, but actively listen to their needs, shedding all preconceptions and biases in the process to learn and adopt the best strategies to reach children in these communities. Beyond listening, we strive to comprehend the specific challenges they confront. Our goal is to design programs and processes that effectively cater to their needs and abilities, because we believe every solution should be a perfect fit.
We understand that a good pair of shoes can remove barriers, empowering children to engage in play, learn, and thrive to their utmost potential. We promise each child we measure the guarantee that they will receive a new pair of athletic, well-fitting shoes. Our mission is to help close the achievement gap and create an environment where children are free to play without discomfort, learning in a dignified manner filled with joy.
Community Impact of Shoes That Fit
The Shoes That Fit initiative has proven transformational. With one in three children living in low-income families, our mission is more crucial than ever. Over 2.8 million shoes and other items have been provided since our founding in 1992, benefitting communities across 50 states and the District of Columbia.
The impact is profound. Post donations, educators report improvements in confidence (89%), physical activity (58%), self-esteem (88%), and social interaction (66%) among children. Between 2022-2023, we reached out to over 164,000 children, reflecting our continuous dedication to this cause.
